X previews a single attached image at roughly 16:9 in the timeline. If your image is much taller, the preview crops the top and bottom and people only see the full picture if they tap through, which most will not do.
A single attached image looks best at 1600 x 900 pixels, a 16:9 ratio, which matches how the timeline crops the preview.
